Sara’s professional life began as a musician and teacher. Her publishing career began in 1989 at Longman Cheshire (now Pearson) where she worked as Senior Editor. As a freelance book editor, Sara has worked mainly on educational texts for Oxford University Press and Pearson Education (primary, secondary and tertiary text books) and Allen & Unwin. Sara has published educational books for both Pearson and Era Publications.
In 2004, Sara took a break from publishing to focus on Australian Indigenous art. Research and writing about art from the APY Lands involved regular visits to Aboriginal art centres. From 2007, Sara curated exhibitions and lectured in Aboriginal Art History at Adelaide Central School of Art and Adelaide University.
From 2014, Sara has been deeply immersed in commissioning and editing literacy materials for Papua New Guinea. Sara’s work for Bilum Books involves project development; extensive trialling of materials working with teachers and schools in Papua New Guinea; overseeing all aspects of editorial and production. To date 50 titles have been published, including the language program: SBC English for Papua New Guinea.
